225/70R15 Polysteel RWL Tire
The Goodyear Polysteel 225/70R15 Raised White Letter tire was an iconic 1970’s tire and this is the more common “large letter” version of the famous RWL tire. It was found on 1979 through 1982 Corvettes, Trans Ams and many other cars from the era. The beautiful white lettering and authentic sidewall markings make this an excellent choice for your second generation Firebird restoration. Radial construction provides a smooth ride.
Genuine Raised White Letter Tire
This is a raised white letter tire, sometimes called RWL for short. Raised white letter tires became common in the late sixties on muscle cars like the Pontiac GTO and high performance pony cars, like the Ford Mustang. Raised white letter tires feature white rubber that is built into the tire’s sidewall when the carcass is being assembled. The letters are formed when the tire is vulcanized in a curing mold, and then buffed clean to reveal bright white letters. Popular raised white letter tires include Firestone Wide Oval and Wide Oval Radials, BFGoodrich Radial T/A, and Goodyear Polyglas tires.
Goodyear Polysteel
One of Goodyear’s most popular radial performance tires from the late 1970s and early 1980s. Originally equipped on muscle and luxury performance vehicles, the Polysteel featured advanced steel-belted radial construction for improved handling, ride comfort, and tread life—marking a transition from bias-ply to modern radial technology. This version features bold, oversized Raised White Letter (RWL) sidewall graphics, delivering a commanding visual presence on period-correct restorations. The P225/70R15 sizing was commonly used on factory 15-inch rally or styled steel wheels, making it an ideal choice for performance-oriented cars of the era. Application: OE fitment on late-1970s to early-1980s Chevrolet Corvette, Camaro Z28, Pontiac Trans Am, Monte Carlo SS, and other GM performance and sport models.
