How to weld using the USC Mini-Weld Model 7 Plastic Welder:

  • Clean the repair area with a good quality plastic cleaner and wipe with a clean cloth in a single direction
  • Bring out the DA sander with the correct sandpaper and work to remove paint, primer until bare plastic is exposed
  • Work on both the sides of the plastic and dust away with compressed air
  • Clean the surface again with the plastic cleaner and apply aluminum body tape on one side while you weld on the other. The aluminum tapes are a preferred choice as they can withstand heat from the welder
  • Use the teardrop shaped airless welding tip to grind along the crack line and round away the sharp edges before preparing to weld
  • Use the appropriate rod for the repair and set the temperature in your welder (approximately 830 °F)
  • When the welder realizes operating temperature, it is time to heat the tip of the rod with the welder and allow the rod to melt the base material
  • Continue the process till the crack is filled up completely
  • Follow the same process on the other side of the plastic
  • Grind away excess plastic with the tear drop welding tip
  • Abrade the surface with a DA Sander before you begin the process of retouching any further
